Auctioneer describes Devon property as ‘decrepit’, but interest is soaring

A falling down building in Newton Abbot, Devon is attracting huge interest from people keen to build a dream property, but the auctioneer has described the lot as ‘decrepit’.

The rear of 100 Queen Street has been listed with a guide of £20,000-£30,000 and is described by Network Auctions in their catalogue as ‘A freehold development site comprising garage and store,’ which has lapsed planning for a two-storey dwelling. But the auctioneers’ video tour shows the extent of the works required – this is no project for the faint hearted and any potential viewer is advised to be very careful while on site!

Being sold on behalf of the Trustees in Bankruptcy, the land and building to the rear of 100 Queen Street is surrounded by residential properties. It is also located close to the town centre and railway station.

Toby Limbrick, auctioneer, said, ‘This is a brilliant project for somebody to be creative with. There are so many ways someone could maximise the site and realise the true value. I’m sure the neighbours and locals are sick of looking at this decrepit old building in their lovely village. The property has lapsed planning for a dwelling and we think there is great potential.’

Planning was granted by Teignbridge Council of 30/3/2009 for a new dwelling and the application was extended on 1/10/2012 under ref: 12/03023/FUL.

Land to the rear of 100 Queen Street, Newton Abbot, Devon, TQ12 2EU will be sold online with Network Auctions on 17 March. For more information: www.networkauctions.co.uk  for a video tour https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1ePMHGfMY4
